Olive Hyde Art Guild (OHAG) announces an art competition of Fremont Middle School students (Grades 6-8) for inclusion on a City of Fremont boxART! vinyl wrap traffic signal control box.

Scope: The Olive Hyde Art Guild is featuring the work of approximately 18-20 local Middle School students in a special boxART! project to share their talents with the community.

Eligibility: Middle school students (Grades 6-8) residing in Fremont or attending school in Fremont, including those in public, private, and home-school programs.

This project is funded by a Grant from the
Alameda County Arts Commission’s ARTSFUND.

 
Reception: All submitted artworks will be exhibited with a reception, 7-9 pm, Friday, January 30, 2026, at the Olive Hyde Art Center & Gallery, 123 Mission Blvd, Fremont, 94539. Approximately 18-20 selected pieces of winning artwork for the boxART! vinyl wrap will be announced at the reception.

Artwork Specifications

  • Entries must be original and entirely the work of the student.
  • Any 2-dimensional medium — including but not limited to painting, drawing, photography, and computer-generated art.
  • Artwork must be two-dimensional (2D) and flat for scanning purposes. Avoid materials that are three-dimensional, heavily textured, or may flake off (e.g., glitter, beads, glued objects).
  • Required Size: either 8.5″ x 11″ or 11″ x 14″.
  • Limit of one submission per student.
  • boxART! artwork works best when colorful and the imagery is clear.

Entry Procedure

  • Download and print the Submission Form. This form must be completed and submitted with the artwork.
  • Deliver your artwork and signed Submission Form (required) to Olive Hyde Art Gallery, 123 Washington Blvd., Fremont, during Gallery hours, 12 noon to 5 pm on any of the following dates:
    • Thursday, January 22.
    • Friday, January 23.
    • Saturday, January 24.
    • Sunday, January 25.

Calendar of Important Dates

  • Artwork Submission: Thursday, January 22 through Sunday, January 25.
  • Entry Deadline: Sunday, January 25, 2026.
  • Reception and Exhibition of all Submitted Artworks: 7-9 pm, Friday, January 30, 2026, at the Olive Hyde Art Center & Gallery, 123 Washington Blvd., Fremont. Approximately 18-20 winners will be announced at this reception.
  • Artwork not selected may be picked up at the close of the reception, or a special time may be arranged for later.
  • Selected artwork will be returned to the artist once scanning for the boxART! vinyl wrap has been completed.
